OPINION

West Ham are in serious danger of going round in ever-decreasing circles at the moment. This was supposed to be a new dawn for the club. With a manager of Manuel Pellegrini’s purported pedigree at the helm, and with the amount of money that has been spent in recent years, the club should, by any logical metric, be kicking on and challenging for European football. But this is West Ham, and as many supporters will no doubt tell you, the Hammers are masters at finding new and unusual ways of underwhelming their fanbase. In this instance, it could be with a shock blast from the past. If Pellegrini is given the shove – and given the club’s recent form that feels like an inevitability at this stage – then the Hammers could reportedly move to bring back Harry Redknapp until the end of the season in an interim capacity, as per Football Insider. Now, of course, there are large factions of the support who still have a lot of time for Redknapp following his spell as manager from 1994-2001, but this is a man who hasn’t managed since 2017, and who left his last job after being sacked by Birmingham City in the Championship. No offence to Redknapp, but what aspect of that record suggests he is the right man to save the Irons right now?
