The past couple of months have been nothing short of disastrous for West Ham United goalkeeper Roberto.
Many Hammers’ fans will have been crossing their fingers that the experience of the Spaniard will have seen him thrive in the Premier League when having to replace the injured Lukasz Fabianski.
Things didn’t quite go as expected though, and West Ham failed to win a single game with the experienced stopper in the side, and Saturday saw him eventually dropped for the game against Chelsea.
David Martin came in, and the clean sheet he kept in the 1-0 victory at Stamford Bridge was the first the Hammers have managed to keep since September – a stat that only magnifies just how poor Roberto was.
With Martin excelling inbetween the sticks, Roberto could have dropped further down the pecking order – something which could see him made available for transfer.
Claret and Hugh have reported that West Ham could be stuck with the Spaniard till the end of next season with his contract still having 18 months left to run in East London.
The online source claim on their website that the Hammers could be forced to spend £2million on the keepers’ wages should he stay at the club.
It is suggested that the club are eager to avoid a pay-off for Roberto, but that buyers are thin on the ground given his form this season in the Premier League.
It has been previously suggested by Claret and Hugh that the 33-year-old has played his last game for the club already, and if that was the case, why would the Hammers bother with keeping him in East London.
For the small matter of only £2million, West Ham must bite the bullet and get rid of Roberto by any means, with the keeper definitely not having a future at the club.
