OPINION

Who could have seen West Ham’s 1-0 victory over Chelsea coming last weekend? The Hammers have been dire in recent weeks, and the vast majority of people would no doubt have been expecting them to extend their winless run to eight games when they made the trip across the capital to Stamford Bridge on Saturday. Instead, what followed was a resolute and wholly surprising performance that was good value for all three points. And a standout outing from Michail Antonio certainly didn’t hurt their chances either. The forward made his return from injury against Tottenham the week before, but this was the first time that he was able to feature for a substantial period of time, and with 76 minutes under his belt, he was brilliant. With three successful dribbles, three shots, and a Whoscored rating of 7.42, he was absolutely everywhere, and was unfortunate to not get on the scoresheet himself. As a result, it will come as a serious blow to the Irons to learn that he could well miss out on their midweek clash with Wolves on Wednesday evening. According to report from Football Insider, the 29-year-old is a doubt for the meeting, and that’s just about the last thing the Hammers need as they look to rebuild some semblance of momentum.
