West Ham are indeed keen on bringing Darren Randolph back to the club, according to Claret & Hugh.
A report from 90min on Sunday suggested that the Hammers had opened talks with Middlesbrough over the 39 cap Republic of Ireland stopper, who left east London for £5 million in 2017.
Responding to that piece, a club source confirmed this to Claret & Hugh, adding that “the club see him as the perfect back-up keeper and given the Boro’s position, he could easily be up for a move back to the Hammers.”
OPINION
It’s very clear at this stage that West Ham need a new goalkeeper. Lukasz Fabianski will be back to fitness soon, of course, but beyond him, Roberto has been a disaster since signing over the summer, and David Martin, for all of the fairytales and recent heroics, doesn’t really feel like a long term solution to a problem that has almost singlehandedly derailed the Hammers’ season. Randolph, even though he is 32, does. The Irish stopper has averaged 2.9 saves per game in each of his last two seasons with Middlesbrough, as per Whoscored, and has been a wonderfully consistent performer regardless of what has been thrown at him. Things aren’t going too great on Teeside this term, and relegation to league one is a real option. The report from Claret & Hugh suggests that Randolph is on around £30,000-a-week, and if that is the case then he will have to be offloaded should Boro make that drop down. In that instance, the Irons could get a bargain.
