West Ham want to snap up four players in the January transfer window in a bid to strengthen their ranks, according to The Athletic journalist David Ornstein.
The Hammers are understood to be looking for a new defensive midfielder, an extra winger, another striker, and a British goalkeeper, with Manuel Pellegrini’s men currently 15th in the table.
Writing in a piece for The Athletic, Ornstein said: “As well as a holding midfield player and a winger, sources tell The Athletic that West Ham are also on the hunt for another striker and a British goalkeeper — possibly for squad quota purposes, but also to avoid the teething problems in adapting to Premier League football endured by Roberto.”
OPINION
This sounds perfect for West Ham fans, if they can pull it off. The simple fact of the matter is that their club have not performed at the level they have been expected to this season, and having any kind of reinforcements for the second half of the season can only be a positive. One area that should be of particular interest is up front. The Hammers have been struggling to get the best out of Sebastien Haller in recent weeks, but the decision to play Michail Antonio up top alongside him on Sunday seemed to be a big turning point for the Frenchman. Not only did he score the winner, but he also registered a Whoscored rating of 8.90, and looked much more like the Haller we were treated to earlier in the season. Surely that means that two up top is the way to go, but with Antonio never too far away from an injury, and with Albian Ajeti struggling to adapt to life in England, bringing in another option is an absolute no brainer.
