West Ham United are mulling whether to terminate the contract of beleaguered director of football Mario Husillos, according to Football Insider.
The outlet claims that the Hammers board have the Argentine recruitment guru’s future on their agenda, given the lack of production from several of his summer signings.
The 60-year-old is thought to earn more than £1million-per-year, and so the club would have to pay him a termination fee if they do choose to get rid of him.
The powers that be at the London Stadium are particularly unimpressed by Roberto and Pablo Fornals, two players Husillos pushed hard to sign, while Sebastien Haller has been a disappointment too.
OPINION
It’s hard to argue against Husillos being under intense scrutiny given the way the Hammers have performed this season. He is ultimately responsible for the club’s recruitment, which simply hasn’t been good enough. Roberto has been as bad as any signing could possibly be, while Fornals has been essentially anonymous through the first few months of the season. Then there’s Haller, who commanded a huge club record transfer fee last summer, but who has gone off the boil spectacularly after a hot start to life in east London. Those are all men signed under Husillos’ watch, while some of the deals he did in 2018 – a la Carlos Sanchez and Jack Wilshere – have failed to produce anything positive. The big thing in the way here is the termination fee. We know that the two Davids don’t like splashing the cash where they can avoid it – hence why manager Manuel Pellegrini is still in a job – and so Husillos may end up limping on for a bit longer.
