West Ham United have been regularly watching Queens Park Rangers starlet Eberechi Eze this season, according to The Sun.

The newspaper claims that former Tottenham Hotspur manager Mauricio Pochettino was keen to bring the midfielder to north London, but that his sacking may have scuppered that move.

The player himself was keen on the switch, but the £20million-rated midfielder may now find himself at Loftus Road until the end of the season.

However, Chelsea, Leicester City and the Hammers have all been watching someone who has emerged as one of the Championship’s standout players this term.

OPINION

This is exciting stuff for West Ham fans. Eze is exactly the type of prospect who would have ended up at Tottenham under Pochettino, but his sacking has changed everything. New Spurs boss Jose Mourinho certainly doesn’t have the same reputation for cultivating young players as Poch, and so there’s now a chance that Eze could end up somewhere else. Perhaps that place will be the London Stadium, who knows? The statistics show that the youngster would be a fantastic addition for the Hammers, and an instant upgrade on some of the team’s underperforming attacking midfielders. As per WhoScored.com, the QPR man has scored more goals than Manuel Lanzini, Felipe Anderson and Andriy Yarmolenko combined this season. He’s also grabbed more assists than any of them, while he is averaging more shots and successful dribbles per game. He’s also being fouled the most, while his average WhoScored rating of 7.44 is the best as well. Certainly he’d be a tremendous signing, but whether they can get it done remains to be seen.
