COMMENTARY

Many West Ham fans fumed over the club’s official Twitter account posting defender Ryan Fredericks’ remarks following the 3-0 loss to Burnley. The 27-year-old right-back claimed that the club really needed to stick together with the side struggling for form, and it seems a large section of Hammers fans had heard it all before. Several supporters stated the club shouldn’t have bothered posting Fredericks’ comments, while others seemed to feel sorry that the right-back had been made to say such predictable things, in fact, one fan even dubbed the defender this week’s “sacrificial lamb.” While it’s never nice to Hammers fans fume, especially when they’re completely justified as sticking together clearly isn’t going to work miracles, it is nice to see the fanbase not take their anger out on Fredericks. The 27-year-old was having a good season before Manuel Pellegrini randomly axed him from the club’s starting line-ups after all. The right-back has impressively averaged 2.7 tackles per game across his 11 league outings, as per WhoScored, and has even managed to be an attacking threat by averaging 0.9 key passes per match.
