West Ham to scout Antov

|

West Ham United are set to scout CSKA Sofia midfielder Valentin Antov on Sunday, according to Frog News.

The Bulgarian outlet claim on their website that the Hammers will be joined by Arsenal and Manchester United in watching the 19-year-old against Ludogorets.

Frog News report that the Hammers will scout the one-cap Bulgarian international who can also play in defence, as well as attending an Elite Youth Level fixture beforehand.

Antov has only managed to make seven starts in the Bulgarian league this season, keeping clean sheets in his last four games with his side currently sitting in fourth place.

OPINION

Given West Ham’s dreadful recent form in the Premier League, it is hard to suggest that Antov couldn’t come in and make some sort of difference on their side. The young Bulgarian can play in defence as well as midfield and would offer great versatility to Manuel Pellegrini in the second half of the season if he was to arrive in January. The 19-year-old might not be the big name that fans of Manchester United or Arsenal are expecting, but their interest proves that he is a bright talent, and should the Hammers beat the two Premier League giants to his signature, it would be a signal of intent. There would be question marks surrounding whether or not Antov would be capable of stepping up to the demands of the Premier League given his lack of experience outside of Bulgaria, but at this moment in time, the Irons seriously have nothing to lose.
