West Ham fans will hate Inkersole’s Pellegrini update

There’s no doubt that this season has been an extremely dispiriting one for West Ham United and their loyal supporters.

One man has been put forward as being responsible for that: Manuel Pellegrini. No matter whether you think the Chilean deserves more or less criticism than the Hammers board, the fact is that they won’t be getting sacked, and so it’s pointless bemoaning them.

The manager, though, may well be dismissed. Or, at least, that’s what we all thought. Journalist Sam Inkersole revealed on the Football London website on Monday that the former Manchester City boss remains in no imminent danger of losing his job, despite alarm at board level about the team’s shocking decline.

The Irons fans are surely in disbelief at that update. Still in no imminent danger of the sack despite a run of eight games in all competitions without a win? Come on now, that is simply ludicrous.

It also jives with what we are hearing from other media outlets. However, Football London are known to have close ties to the club, and so it’s hard to simply dismiss this report.

But this certainly isn’t what the supporters wanted to hear on Monday. The Chilean is on extremely thin ice as far as they are concerned. In fact, many of them feel he has slipped through the cracks already.

Certainly, results need to improve sharpish. This team should not be 16th in the Premier League table. The squad is a good one, but it’s been left tactically bankrupt by its manager.

Many people thought Saturday’s 3-2 defeat to London rivals Tottenham Hotspur would be the final straw for Pellegrini. But it seems like he’s going to be hanging around for a bit longer.
