OPINION

Another week, another goal for Nathan Holland for West Ham’s U23s, another barrage of social media action calling for him to get the nod for the first team. At this stage, it’s all getting a bit ridiculous. What more does the young winger have to do to justify his inclusion in a Premier League match day squad? Consistently, he is the best player the youth side has on show, and consistently he is hitting the back of the net with a variety of strikes that showcase his sizeable abilities in the attacking third. Throw in a flurry of assists too and it’s clear that he is a real attacking talent. And yet, for some unknown reason, Manuel Pellegrini continues to overlook him. That might have been understandable when the Hammers were flying high earlier in the season, and the old adage about not fixing broken things comes to mind. But right now, the Irons are in free fall, and it’s fairly evident from even the most of cursory of glances that something has to change. Why not take a gamble on Holland? At this stage, they have nothing to lose, and potentially an awful lot to gain from giving him a chance?
