Roberto could have played his last competitive match for West Ham United in the 3-2 defeat against Tottenham on Saturday, according to Claret and Hugh.

The club source claim on their website that fellow summer signing, David Martin could be given his debut for the Hammers when they travel to take on Chelsea at Stamford Bridge.

Claret and Hugh report that it would be hard for Manuel Pellegrini to reinstate the Spaniard should he be dropped, with Lukasz Fabianski also stepping up with recovery in the background.

It is suggested that Roberto’s confidence has fully gone and that Martin could get the chance despite being the Irons’ third-choice goalkeeper.

OPINION

It would be no surprise to Roberto dropped for the upcoming game against Chelsea. Pellegrini should think long and hard about the decision, although it should be a very simple one for the Chilean to make after the last month in East London. The Spaniard has been nothing short of hopeless in goal, and he could have made a massive difference to the majority of the Hammers’ defeats in the past couple of months with many embarrassing mistakes. Martin will have been questioning the decision to move to West Ham in the summer, and if he doesn’t get the chance now, he is surely never going to get the opportunity, especially with Fabianski closing in on his return. As each game goes by the more and more West Ham fans are slamming Roberto for his efforts, and if they could make the decisions he will have been given the axe weeks before this potential decision.
