No one knows better than West Ham United midfielder Jack Wilshere that he is one of the most frustrating players in recent times.

The former Arsenal man has picked up injury after injury throughout his career, and Manuel Pellegrini will be crossing his fingers over the fitness of his midfield man.

West Ham are seriously lacking a creative spark in the final third right now, and after Manuel Lanzini was stretchered off against Burnley in the 3-0 defeat, that need has gotten bigger.

Football.London journalist Sam Inkersole revealed in an injury update that Wilshere should return after the international break after picking up a groin problem.

Inkersole added that Pellegrini confirmed that it is only a small problem for the England international, but the longer it goes on, the more it doesn’t seem straight forward.

“Jack has a small problem but he is not 100 per cent fit so I think, for him, it is a risk for him to come back before he has fully recovered,” he said.

Wilshere has only started twice in the Premier League this season, and Pellegrini did mention how he could feature against Burnley, something that clearly didn’t happen.

Given Pellegrini’s uncertainty on the set back for his midfielder, it doesn’t appear that the injury could be very straight-forward, and the Hammers could live to seriously miss him.

The 27-year-old could have been given a free role in the middle of the park in the coming weeks, especially after Mark Noble also limped off at Turf Moor.

Should there have been any confidence in his verdict on the injury, Wilshere will surely have been thrown into the mix against Tottenham next time out, in what is quickly becoming a must-win game.

In West Ham’s time of need, they will be crossing their fingers over the fitness of Wilshere in this two-week break.
