When you’re spending £100,000-a-week on a player’s wages, it’s not unreasonable to expect a certain level of contribution from said player.

That kind of money would make a talent one of the top earners at pretty much any club in the country, and splashing out that sort of fee is not a decision to be taken lightly.

Which is why, if we’re being honest, it always felt like a bit of a gamble to hand Jack Wilshere of all people a contract of that size, as per Spotrac.

The West Ham midfielder is a real talent on his day, no question about it, but injuries have blighted his career, and increasingly he looks like a shadow of the precocious young playmaker who got tongues wagging and pulses racing at Arsenal a decade or so ago.

And so, it could prove to be good news that he is reportedly keen on a move.

According to a report from the Athletic, the 34 cap England international could follow in the footsteps of a host of top British talent and seek a decent pay check and regular playing time in the MLS.

The article states that Wilshere would consider a move stateside when his contract expires next season, and honestly, the Hammers should let him go.

So far this season he has averaged a paltry 0.2 successful dribbles per game, as per Whoscored, as well as no key passes, no shots on goal, and a match rating of just 5.99.

It’s not expressly his fault, given how unfortunate he has been with injuries, but at this stage, the Hammers are better off bailing than taking another expensive risk on a player who just hasn’t hit the heights he was expected to consistency enough.
