Matic likely to move to Italy in January

After their horrible run in the Premier League, West Ham United need reinforcements in January.

The Hammers have not won since September in the top-flight, and sit just above the relegation zone after losing to Burnley 3-0 at Turf Moor last time out.

Mark Noble was forced off in that clash after picking up an injury, something which could leave Manuel Pellegrini with limited options moving forward.

Declan Rice is almost certain to play in holding midfield in his captain’s absence, and Carlos Sanchez has already proved that he isn’t good enough to consistently cement his spot in the side.

The Colombian has only started games in the Carabao Cup this season and has come off the bench in three Premier League games, he has yet to make a single tackle, clearance or interception according to WhoScored.

With that in mind, 90min reported on Wednesday that the Hammers could make a move for Manchester United midfielder Nemanja Matic in the January window.

The online outlet claim on their website that the Serbian international doesn’t necessarily want to leave Old Trafford, but would consider an exit given his situation.

Matic’s experience would be a great option to have in holding midfield, and he would almost be guaranteed a starting spot given the nightmare that Pellegrini is having with his side.

It might not be as straight-forward as that though, with the Times reporting that the midfielder is more likely to end up in Italy should he move away from the Red Devils.

The newspaper claim that both AC and Inter Milan are to rival the Hammers for his services, and that would seriously throw a spanner in the works at the London Stadium.

With his likely destination now being elsewhere, it looks like West Ham are facing an uphill battle to secure his services midway through the season.
