West Ham want Giroud in January

West Ham are keen on signing Olivier Giroud in January, according to Football Insider.

The 6’4″ World Cup winning hitman has fallen down the pecking order at Chelsea under Frank Lampard, and has made just one start in the Premier League this season.

It is understood that he is growing frustrated by his lack of opportunities at Stamford Bridge, and with the Hammers keen to strengthen their forward line this winter, he has been identified as a key target by Manuel Pellegrini.

This is exactly the kind of signing that West Ham need to be making. It’s blatantly evident that they need to bring in another striker to help ease the workload for Sebastien Haller in January, and there will be few candidates as effectove or experienced as Giroud. Ordinarily, signing a 33-year-old forward would be considered a gamble, but in this instance, it could be the perfect solution to a problem. Giroud won’t expect to play every week, but he still has more than enough gas in the tank to make a real go of things when he is called upon. What’s more Giroud offers a similar style of hold up play to Haller. Last season he won 4.1 aerial duels per 90 minutes, as per Whoscored, and in that respect he would be the ideal replacement were Haller ever to miss out through injury.
