West Ham United are preparing to try and sell veteran midfielder Carlos Sanchez in January, according to The Sun.
The newspaper claims that the Hammers are ready to get rid of the Colombian international, despite him coming off the substitute’s bench against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday.
Thee 33-year-old is set to be a free agent when his current contract expires at the end of the season, and so Manuel Pellegrini is looking to make some money for him while he can.
However, his age and poor form since joining the club means they are willing to accept as little as £1million, while they could be forced into loaning him out to get rid of him as well.
OPINION
Look, it’s probably a fools errand trying to get any money for Sanchez in January. Why would anyone pay £1million for him, really? He’s not the sort of game-changer who you need as part of your squad right away, and so teams will surely just wait until the summer and get him for nothing, right? If the Hammers can secure a loan to get his wages off the books then that might be the best option, because it will effectively end his West Ham career anyway. This was a bizarre signing from the get-go in all honesty. Sanchez was never good enough for the Premier League at this stage of his career, and so why Pellegrini brought him in is a mystery to us all. The statistics from this season show us that the Colombian has basically been anonymous. As per WhoScored.com, he scores zeroes across the board in every single offensive category, while the only defensive tally he has recorded is 0.3 fouls per game on average. Yes, he’s only made four substitute appearances in the top flight this campaign, but those are still absolutely shocking numbers.
