West Ham are favourites to land Lucas Vazquez from Real Madrid in January, according to Spanish outlet El Desmarque.
The Hammers are understood to be interested in swooping for the three time Champions League winner, with Real president Florentino Perez keen to move him on this winter.
The report also suggests that fellow Premier League sides Newcastle United and Wolves are considering moves for the 28-year-old, but the Irons are believed to be leading the race to bring him to England.
OPINION
This would be a massive deal for West Ham if they could pull it off. Vazquez has slipped right down the pecking order at Real Madrid so far this season, making just three starts in La Liga so far this term, but make no mistake, the quality he possesses is huge, and he would be a fantastic capture for the club. This season probably isn’t the best measure of what he is actually capable of, given how infrequently he has featured, but Vazquez has still managed 2.6 successful dribbles, 2.3 key passes, and 2.3 shots on goal per 90 minutes, as per Whoscored. You don’t win three Champions Leagues unless you’ve got a bit of something special, and while there are no guarantees that Vazquez would be willing to take the step down from a club like Real to the London Stadium, it would be an incredible coup if it came off.
