The cost of paying off West Ham United manager Manuel Pellegrini and his staff is the key factor in the board’s decision to remain patient with him, according to Football Insider.
The outlet claims that it would cost the Hammers bucketloads to pull the trigger on Pellegrini’s £10million-per-year contract which has 18 months or so to run.
The London Stadium decision makers believe the Chilean should be given a chance to turn things around after the team’s initially positive start to the season, with the injury of goalkeeper Lukasz Fabianski seen as being key to the Irons’ slump.
However, despite their reluctance, the West Ham board will meet on Monday to discuss the manager’s position and the current min-crisis at the club.
OPINION
This report confirms – unofficially of course – what most West Ham supporters have come to suspect amid this awful run of form. Simply put, the Hammers board are unlikely to dismiss Pellegrini unless relegation is a truly serious threat. It’s only November, so that’s not the case just yet, meaning that they will continue to have patience with the former Manchester City boss. They don’t want to have to pay the Chilean compensation, as well as his coaching staff, particularly if they decide to bring in a manager who is already employed at another club. That would cost them a heap of cash, something we know the two Davids don’t like to part with. So this is a pretty depressing state of affairs for the Irons faithful, to be honest. There seems to be blind faith in Pellegrini from the West Ham board based purely on how much they are paying him. That’s no way to run a football club, and it could end up costing the east London outfit dearly.
