Danny Mills has claimed that West Ham United winger Felipe Anderson is piling pressure on Manuel Pellegrini with a number of poor performances.
The Sky Sports pundit believes that a number of West Ham’s big-name players are not performing to the standards expected of them at the London Stadium.
Mills admitted that Hammers’ fans could start to have doubts should players such as Anderson continue to perform in the same manner this season, and that could put more pressure on Pellegrini.
“That’s where the manager’s come under a little bit of pressure,” he told Football Insider.
“There’s a lot of talent, like Anderson, a lot of talented players in that side and they’re underperforming.
“That’s where the fans are starting to have doubts if you’re below the levels that people expect, you come under pressure.”
Anderson has yet to score a single goal for the Hammers this campaign in his 11 appearances despite scoring nine in his opening season in the Premier League.
OPINION
Mills is spot on with his verdict, as disappointing as Anderson has been this season, it is not only him that needs to improve in the coming weeks. That doesn’t take any criticism away from the Brazilian though, who doesn’t have any excuse for not performing in the opening months of the campaign. The 26-year-old has had a full year in the Premier League so he has no adjusting to do, and he tasted success so he should have naturally continued that form. Anderson has completed 2.5 dribbles per game according to WhoScored, the only stat he is better in this season compared to last – where he averaged more shots and key passes. With a number of injury problems, anew signings such as Pablo Fornals still not performing, West Ham can not afford any more passengers, and Anderson must step up and improve starting against Jose Mourinho’s Tottenham side on Saturday.
