West Ham will seek to sign two new players in January, according to Football Insider.

It is understood that the Hammers will look to bring in a new defender and reinforcements up front, with Mario Husillos set to lead the search.

The Director of Football is said to be drawing up a list of potential recruits, but has yet to narrow down his pursuit to any specific targets.

The report also suggests that Hammers are looking for players who can make an immediate impact, as opposed to those who might take a lengthy bedding in period.

OPINION

This will be music to the ears of many West Ham fans. The Hammers haven’t started the season badly by any means, but they could use some reinforcement in key areas, and it sounds as if the club are intent on providing just that. The main thing will surely be bringing in another striker. Sebastien Haller has been brilliant so far this term, averaging a Whoscored rating of 7.37 per game, but beyond him, the Irons look woefully understaffed in up top. Albian Ajeti has the potential to be useful, but the Swiss has just 20 minutes of Premier League action his name so far, and is clearly regarded as one for the future. Factor in long term absences for Michail Antonio and Xande Silva, and it’s fairly apparent that another body is needed. Signing a striker is always a lot easier said than done, but with enough preparation, the Hammers could pull this one off.
