Sokratis comments on West Ham top six chances

|

Arsenal defender Sokratis has admitted that West Ham United could finish in the Premier League top-six this season.

The Hammers currently sit in fifth spot after going unbeaten since their opening day 5-0 thrashing at the hands of Manchester City.

Sokratis believes that there are many different teams that could make the step up in this campaign, and also named Leicester City as a side who could qualify for European football.

The Greek international did admit that there are up to five teams that are a step above the rest, before implying that the likes of West Ham and Leicester are capable of breaking their run at the top.

“Why not? The Premier League is the best in the world,” he told the Evening Standard.

“You have two, three, four or maybe five teams that are a little step above of the others but you see other teams like Leicester and West Ham doing very well and because of this it is a very difficult league.”

OPINION

If there is one league where anything is possible, it is the Premier League. The way this season has started it would come as no surprise to see the likes of West Ham pushing for a spot in the top-six given the way they have performed. The Hammers have been ruthless in front of goal, and solid at the back as Manuel Pellegrini looks to put a side together that is capable of performing both domestically and in Europe down the line. The likes of Arsenal, Tottenham, and Chelsea all haven’t been at their best as of yet, and this season could be the perfect timing for the Hammers to highlight just how good they have become and send a message to their London rivals. Manchester United are always expected to be there come the end of the season, and West Ham recently dismantled them with relative ease in the 2-0 win at the London Stadium, and that only highlighted how they are more than capable of mixing with the big clubs, and not look out of place.
