Former Rangers manager Ally McCoist believes struggling Everton can cause an upset and secure victory against West Ham United on Saturday.

The Toffees are woefully out of form and boss Marco Silva is under increasing pressure, but McCoist believes the home side can create some breathing room for their manager at Goodison Park.

“They’ve had a shocking start, spent a lot of money, they’ve had a really, really poor start,” he said on talkSPORT [18/10; 09:05]. “Third bottom of the league – must win.

“I just think it’s so important for Everton, I think they have to win. I think they might do enough, Everton.”

OPINION

This is a bit of a banana skin sort of game for West Ham. They should go into this one as the favourites, based on league position, how they’ve played and the quality of their manager, but you never know in football. You kind of expect Everton to enjoy an upturn in form at some point, but the longer it goes on without them rounding into form the more concerning it becomes and the more pressure Silva comes under. However, McCoist believes they’re going to come out firing against the Hammers and he personally feels that Silva’s team can get a result. We know that there are plenty of talented players in this Everton squad, from Lucas Digne and Gylfi Sigurdsson to Richarlison and Moise Kean, and if they all decide to actually turn up this season then they could cause teams problems. So if that happens on Saturday then it could be tricky for the Irons, but Manuel Pellegrini’s side should certainly be confident heading into this one.
