Roberto Martinez has hailed West Ham playmaker Andriy Yarmolenko, describing the Ukrainian as “very clinical”.
The 30-year-old assisted Robert Snodgrass for his opening goal in the 1-1 draw against Sheffield United on Saturday afternoon, and Belgian international manager Martinez has been quick to sing his praises.
Speaking on Goals On Sunday (Sky Sports Premier League, 12.45, Sunday October 27th), he said: “Very clinical.
“I think that West Ham in that first half, that action, everything goes out to Yarmolenko.
“That first time playing into the path of Snodgrass, it’s that quality that maybe Sheffield United were not used to in the Championship.”

Yarmolenko has already shown this season just how good he can be for West Ham, and he was absolutely on top of his game against Sheffield United on Saturday. The Ukrainian managed three shots, four key passes, and a successful dribble, as per Whoscored, as well as a match rating of 7.33 for his efforts. And the Hammers’ goal was, as Martinez says, a prime example of how important he has become for this side. The first time ball he laced through to Snodgrass was precise and perfectly weighted, as well as intelligent and quite visionary. Players like Yarmolenko can make a real difference for sides like West Ham, and if he keeps this up, he could be in with a real shout of being their player of the season.
