Carlos Sánchez is likely to leave West Ham at the end of the season, according to Football.London journalist Sam Inkersole, and few West Ham fans will be losing any sleep over the prospect.

The 88 cap Colombian international has struggled to hold down a regular starting role since signing for the Hammers at the beginning of last season, and it is Inkersole’s opinion that he could be cut loose.

Writing in a piece for Football.London, he said: “Midfielder Sanchez is likely to move on this summer having struggled for form and fitness ever since he arrived in the capital last August.”

Honestly, if Sanchez were to leave tomorrow, you have to wonder if any West Ham fans would notice.

That’s no slight on the midfielder, who is veteran of the game and who clearly has plenty of talent, but the sad fact is that he just hasn’t got going in east London, and as a result, he has been thoroughly demoted to a bit-part player for the Hammers.

He made just the seven appearances in the Premier League last term, including just two starts, but only averaged 0.6 tackles and 0.1 interceptions per game in those matches, as per Whoscored.

Sometimes a player just isn’t compatible with a club, and after this dire spell in the capital, it is clear that Sanchez and West Ham just weren’t meant to be.

Obviously, things could change between now and the end of the season, but right now, it’s hard to see any other outcome but an exit for the South American.
