West Ham have identified the positions they need to strengthen in January, and have begun the process of picking out specific players to do so, according to reliable source ExWHUemployee.
The Hammers are understood to be looking for a new centre-back and a forward to provide cover for summer signing Sebastien Haller.
Speaking on the West Ham Way podcast, Ex said: “In terms of transfers, of course they haven’t made any moves yet, but they are looking at a centre back and forward cover for January.
“They’ve identified those positions and they’re looking at players. Obviously it’s early days.”
OPINION
To be fair to the Hammers, bringing in a new forward seems like a smart move. After all, if you take Sebastien Haller out of the equation, they are left with Albian Ajeti, who has yet to show anything to suggest he is up to the task of leading the line consistently, and Xande Silva, who himself is still out injured. By contrast, a new centre-half seems like less of an obvious decision. With Issa Diop and Angelo Ogbonna both performing well this term, Fabian Balbuena waiting in the wings, and Winston Reid on course for a return to action pretty soon, the implication would be that one of those four is not fancied by Pellegrini. You have to fear for Balbuena and Reid.
