West Ham United midfielder Robert Snodgrass is thought to be a doubt for Saturday’s clash with Everton, according to Football London.
The outlet claims that the 32-year-old, on a reported £40,000-per-week at the London Stadium [Source: Spotrac], could miss the Goodison Park contest through injury.
The veteran pulled out of Scotland’s squad ahead of their win over San Marino citing a minor calf problem, meaning his participation on Saturday is up in the air.
The former Hull City man went on to retire from international football this week.
OPINION
The Scottish football fans and manager Steve Clarke would surely be rather irritated if it turns out that Snodgrass is fit and firing for Saturday. He didn’t feel he was capable of playing against San Marino after learning he was dropped for that game, so surely he’s not going to be ready to start against the Toffees. To be fair, he’s had a fair few days for this problem, which was a minor one to begin with, to heal. However, it would still be a bit of a slap in the face for Clarke and the Tartan Army if he lined up from the start at Goodison on Saturday. Having said that, that seems very unlikely to happen. The Scot hasn’t been a regular starter for Manuel Pellegrini’s side this season even when he has been fully fit, and has failed to distinguish himself in the couple of Carabao Cup appearances he has made. With that said, don’t expect to see the veteran midfielder in the Hammers’ starting line-up against Marco Silva’s side.
