Felipe Anderson is a “world class” talent, but needs to be more consistent, according to Football.London journalist Sam Inkersole.

The Brazilian has hit nine goals and assisted seven more in 43 Premier League appearances since joining the Hammers, but Inkersole believes that he has more to offer.

Writing in a piece for Football.London, he said: “He’s too inconsistent.

“World class on his day but can be frustrating as anything in equal measure.

“There is far too much potential in the Brazilian to give up on him but he constantly leaves us wanting more as we know its there.”

OPINION

It’s hard to disagree with Inkersole here. On his day, Anderson is sublime. The Brazilian is capable of singlehandedly winning matches, and his Whoscored rating of 7.53 so far this season shows just how good he can be when he gets going. But equally, there are games when he is off his game entirely, and even in the matches when he is on it, he still lacks a basic level of consistency. His pass completion rate, for example, was just 76% last term, compared to 88.4% from Manuel Lanzini this season, as per Whoscored. That shows that he has a tendency to be wasteful in possession, and while he is clearly a live wire with the ability to influence matches immensely, if he isn’t performing at a consistently high level, you have to ask how effective he can truly be for the Hammers. Obviously he will continue to be a key figure for Pellegrini, but surely he can do more for the side.
