Aaron Cresswell missed out on West Ham’s 2-0 defeat to Everton on Saturday afternoon with a “minor injury”, according to a report from Football.London.

The £50,000-a-week defender [Spotrac] was absent from the defeat at Goodison Park, despite having reclaimed his place in the Hammers’ starting lineup in recent weeks after scoring two goals in three games.

The piece in Football.London reads: “West Ham defender Aaron Cresswell has been ruled out of West Ham’s trip to Everton due to what is being described as a “minor injury” by the club.

“The defender picked up a knock against Crystal Palace so logic dictates it could be linked to that and comes despite manager Manuel Pellegrini saying that he had no fresh injury concerns ahead of this game apart from the long-term absentees.”

OPINION

West Ham could have really done with Cresswell yesterday. The Hammers never really looked at the races, and a large part of their issue stemmed from a general disjointedness that you can’t help feeling was brought about somewhat by personnel changes. Arthur Masuaku was drafted in at left-back, but struggled to get going, and his Whoscored rating of 6.5 was far below the average level of performance he has put in when called upon so far this season. It was also he who got turned inside out for the Toffees’ first goal, and while Cresswell has hardly been perfect this term, he has been showing some really good signs in recent weeks that will surely have supporters wondering what might have been.
