Declan Rice has been raving about Nathan Holland after the West Ham attacker scored in the Under-23s’ win against Valencia B on Wednesday night.
Holland’s early first-half goal was enough to seal a 1-0 win for the young Hammers in the International Premier League Cup and move themselves to the top of a group that also contains Wolfsburg and Brighton.
Rice took to his personal Twitter account to hail Holland for his goal.
“What a player,” the England international said in response to a video clip of Holland hitting the back of the net.
Holland’s goal against Valencia’s B team was superb and surely the 21-year-old attacker is putting himself into contention to get a first-team call up by Manuel Pellegrini. Holland has only ever made one senior appearance for the Hammers and that came in 2017 when he played against Bolton in the League Cup. He’s been stuck in the Under-23s for most of the time since then but surely Pellegrini has to hand him a chance in cup competitions this season or start to name him on the bench every now and then in the Premier League. Holland’s goal against Valencia’s B team was the only good thing he has done this term. West Ham’s Under-23s have started strongly in Premier League 2 by winning three and drawing one of their first four games. Holland scored in a 2-2 draw with Manchester United last month and has also assisted another goal for the young Hammers side. Surely he should be on Pellegrini’s mind by now.
