Josh Cullen had a superb first appearance for the Republic of Ireland on Tuesday night when he played 90 minutes of their 3-1 win against Bulgaria in an international friendly. Cullen, 23, was sent on loan to Charlton in the summer by West Ham and supporters of both London clubs will no doubt be thrilled to see so many Irish football fans going wild for the midfielder’s performance in Dublin this week. It was Cullen’s first senior international cap and did a great job of showing that he is worth more in the future with a well-rounded display against Bulgaria. It adds to what has been a fine start to the season in the Championship with unbeaten Charlton. According to stats by WhoScored, Cullen has completed 80.2 per cent of his passes with the Addicks while also averaging 2.4 tackles, 0.6 interceptions and 0.6 key passes per league game. He can improve on those stats but they are still impressive for a player who had barely played in the second-tier before his summer switch to The Valley.
