West Ham United defender Issa Diop put in one of his most commanding performances of the season against Aston Villa to help his side earn a point on Monday.

After going down to 10-men, the Frenchman stepped up and helped put a stop to countless attacks as the promoted side looked for a winner at Villa Park.

Wesley, a summer arrival in the Midlands, was kept quiet for the majority of the game despite his great physical presence leading the line, as Diop helped his side keep their third consecutive clean sheet in all competitions.

The 22-year-old completed two tackles and interceptions according to WhoScored, as well as four clearances as he helped secure a point.

Sunday brings Manchester United to East London, the side that were reported by reliable Hammers’ source, ExWHUemployee, to be considering a bid for the enforcer in the summer.

Speaking on the West Ham Way (27/06, 59:26) he said: “Manchester United are considering actually putting in a formal offer for Diop, it was an enquiry before.”

“Talk is of a £65million offer coming in, it hasn’t come in yet.”

The Frenchman remained in East London and has started every single game this season, with Angelo Ogbonna being his main partner in those matches.

Diop admitted in the build-up to the game on Sunday that he is a better player this season, and is ready to prove that to the Red Devils at the London Stadium.

“Personally I don’t think I played a very good game and when I reviewed it, I saw what I did wrong and this year I am going to try to improve on it,” he told Sky Sports.

“I think I am already a better player, I have more experience but I still need to improve and will continue to work towards that.”

Should Diop continue to get better, he could place himself in the shop window for the Red Devils with a dominant display.

West Ham will want their main defender to dominate his opponents at the London Stadium on Sunday but should be wary of the potential that Manchester United’s reported interest could become stronger.
