West Ham United are angry with the recent media treatment of young midfielder Declan Rice, according to Football Insider.
The reputable football outlet claim that the Hammers believe that comments made by the 20-year-old to FourFourTwo regarding a potential move to Manchester United were misinterpreted.
Football Insider report that West Ham are disappointed with the treatment and have started posting more pro-Rice content on their platforms throughout the previous week.
Speaking to FourFourTwo magazine recently, the England international admitted he believes he has the ability to play for the Red Devils in the future but further insisted that he is loving his time at the London Stadium.
OPINION
There is no doubting the fact that Rice’s comments have been taken out of context by numerous outlets. The England international was just backing himself and his own ability but definitely made it clear that he was happy at West Ham and that his near future remains in East London. After his quick rise to the top, the young battling midfielder will be taking each experience one step at a time, but will no doubt thank the Hammers for their positive spin on the situation. Rice will just want to concentrate on his football, and the positive press from his club will hopefully pay dividends, with the 20-year-old already excelling in the heart of the Hammers midfield. Rice has averaged 3.5 tackles and 2.3 interceptions per game so far this season according to WhoScored – the best in terms of interceptions in the entire squad. The Hammers have every right to be disappointed with the way Rice’s comments could have been twisted, but as long as their star man is performing on the pitch, they have no reason to feel threatened.
