Sam Inkersole has singled out West Ham United winger Robert Snodgrass as a player badly out of nick after his performance in the 4-0 defeat against Oxford United.
The Scotland international was substituted in the second half after failing to make much of an impact at the Kassam Stadium, as the Hammers crashed out of the Carabao Cup.
Football.London journalist, Inkersole, released his weekly power rankings on Thursday, with Snodgrass dropping three places after failing to impress this season so far.
“Played against Oxford with very little effect and was hauled off in the second half,” he said.
“Looks badly out of nick after a lack of minutes this season.”
The £40,000-a-week winger [Spotrac] has only managed to make one Premier League start under Manuel Pellegrini this season, and three cameo appearances off the bench.
OPINION
The Scotsman didn’t cover himself in glory in the Oxford defeat on Wednesday, but having said that, neither did any of his teammates in the embarrassing outing. With West Ham going so well in the Premier League, it is hard to see any spot for Snodgrass unless Pellegrini’s side is hit with injuries and suspensions. The 32-year-old must do more to turn his manager’s head, with Inkersole right, he is badly out of nick and he must do something to change that, and quick. His 144 minutes of Premier League action hasn’t resulted in much success, as he has struggled to make any sort of impact. His main skill is his passing and crossing ability, and he has only averaged 0.5 key passes per game according to WhoScored – proving he isn’t having the desired effect on the Hammers’ side. Not one player could leave the pitch with his head held high after a four-goal thrashing against a League One side, and they can all expect to be back on the sidelines in the coming weeks, Snodgrass especially.
