Football London’s West Ham United correspondent Sam Inkersole has lavished praise on Hammers winger Felipe Anderson for his performance against Norwich City last Saturday.

Inkersole was delivering his ‘Power Rankings’ verdict on each member of Manuel Pellegrini’s squad after the first four games of the new season.

And he had particular praise for the mercurial winger: “The Brazilian was superb against Norwich and has moved up a couple of places as a result in the rankings,” he wrote on the Football London website.

“He didn’t get on the scoresheet at the weekend but was borderline unplayable at times.”

OPINION

Inkersole is absolutely spot on, here. Anderson was magnificent against the Canaries and gave their defenders an absolute rollicking. There was nothing they could do; they were simply up against a player of superior quality. In truth, almost the entire West Ham performance on Saturday was near-perfect. That was what Pellegrini’s West Ham are supposed to look like, and Anderson is at the heart of that. He’s a quality, quality operator who wouldn’t look out of place playing for any of the top six sides. There’s already an argument that he is one of the best players in the Premier League outside of the traditional big six. Certainly when you consider who else fits under that description, there aren’t too many players who you would say are clearly better than him. You have people like Everton’s Lucas Digne – arguably the second best left back in the league – or Wolverhampton Wanderers’ midfield maestro Ruben Neves. Even after all these years you could make a case for Jamie Vardy, and certainly his Leicester City teammate James Maddison. But Anderson is certainly up there.
