West Ham United doctors are happy with the progress being made by Michail Antonio, according to Claret and Hugh.
Antonio was forced off the field in the Carabao Cup second-round clash against Newport County in August and has been sidelined ever since.
The club source revealed that the 29-year-old is now feeling no pain in his hamstring after undergoing successful surgery, and now simply needs time to recover.
It is claimed that the club are hopeful that the forward will recover much quicker than the suggested four-month absence, due to his grit and determination from previous setbacks in his past.
OPINION
All of the signs coming out of West Ham suggest that they are confident that Antonio will return quicker than most expect. The 29-year-old has gone through this before, having suffered similar hamstring injuries in the past couple of seasons, and this surgery should put an end to that recurring theme. Antonio brings the Hammers athleticism and power both out wide and upfront and made a real impact off the bench in games before picking up the injury. Antonio had averaged 3.6 shots per 90 minutes before his injury according to WhoScored and also completed 1.4 key passes – proving in his short time on the pitch he could change games when he was called upon. Antonio appears to share the same enthusiasm and positivity as his club, after posting a message on his personal Instagram account telling fans he is ready to start his rehabilitation and come back even stronger this time around – a message that will no doubt delight West Ham fans.
