Jamie Carragher has hailed West Ham playmaker Manuel Lanzini, claiming he is a “massive fan” of the Argentine.

The 26-year-old missed most of last season with ligament damage, and the former Liverpool man has been quick to emphasise just how important he is for the Hammers.

Speaking on Sky Sports (Sky Sports Main Event, September 16th, 19.45), he said: “I’m a massive fan of Lanzini.

“I think he was a big miss for West Ham last season with the injury problems that he had.”

OPINION

When Lanzini is on song, he is borderline unplayable. The man her in which he drifts between the lines and causes havoc for those trying to track him makes him a genuinely lethal threat, and he has proven that already this season with some standout displays. So far this term, he has averaged 3.5 key passes and 3.3 successful dribbles per match, as per Whoscored, and there aren’t many players in the Premier League, let alone West Ham’s squad, who can tear apart an opposition defence like he can. Last season was a real blow for the playmaker, who was unfortunate to get so little action, but now that he’s back he looks to be back to his old self once more. That can only be a good thing for the Hammers, who look to have a really potent attacking side this season.
