Spencer Owen revealed that he wasn’t ready to judge West Ham on the basis of their current form as there had only been two games.

The YouTuber and founder of Hashtag United, who is a known West Ham supporter, was asked by a fan on Instagram after revealing his Premier League Team of the Week, whether Owen thought the Hammer’s start to the season was a fluke or whether their form would continue like this for the rest of the season.

Owen responded to the supporter in sassy fashion as he highlighted that there had only been two games and cheekily claimed that the starting against Manchester City, doesn’t count as starting.

“2 games,” wrote Owen, via his Instagram account.

“Starting vs City doesn’t count as starting!”

OPINION

The Hammers have picked up one point from their first two games, so at least it’s not the worst start to the season they’ve had in recent times. However, it’s fair to say that across the first two matches there hasn’t been much to cheer about. Manchester City ripped the Hammers apart on the opening day of the season in order to achieve a 5-0 win and only a true optimist would have found a positive for Manuel Pellegrini to take from that game.  After all, according to WhoScored, Michail Antonio was the Hammers’ best performing player in that game as he achieved a rating of 6.40 and you feel his rating is only that high as he was dragged off at half-time, before Man City had the opportunity to make him look any more inferior.  As for the Hammers’ recent 1-1 draw with Brighton, that point may prove to be better than previously thought in hindsight. Brighton may have seemed like a winnable game on paper, considering they finished 17th in their 2018/19 campaign, but under Graham Potter they look like a whole new side. Brighton cruised past Watford in their league opener, and perhaps they’re set to be this season’s dark horses.
