West Ham co-chairman David Gold shared that he thought West Ham’s 5-0 loss to Manchester City was disappointing.

The businessman was asked for his verdict on the Hammers’ heavy loss to Man City on Saturday and stated that while it was a disappointing result for the club, West Ham must remain positive and go again against Brighton.

“Disappointing result but we must remain positive and go again against Brighton with belief,” wrote Gold on his verified Twitter account.

Man City cruised to victory against the Hammers on Saturday at the London Stadium, with Gabriel Jesus and Sergio Aguero getting on the scoresheet along with Raheem Sterling scoring a hat-trick.

OPINION

Gold is spot-on with his verdict on West Ham’s loss. While losing 5-0 is never nice, at the end of the day Man City are one of, if not, the strongest side in the league. It was a huge ask before the game for Manuel Pellegrini’s side to be able to deny Pep Guardiola’s team getting all three points, and now the game is over, they must put the result out of their minds. The Hammers were only able to show glimpses of what they could do, with new signing Sebastien Haller looking good whenever he was on the ball, so it was hard to assess what the state the side was in after pre-season. West Ham are back in Premier League action next Saturday as they travel to face Brighton, and need to believe in their ability to get a result otherwise the Seagulls will hand them another defeat. The Seagulls beat Watford 3-0 on Saturday, with Neal Maupay, Abdoulaye Doucoure and Florin Andone all scoring, and after such a comfortable win they are no doubt full of confidence. This means they may cause West Ham trouble if the Man City result weighs on the players’ minds.
