Jack Collison tipped West Ham midfielder Jack Wilshere to be top notch in the 2019/20 season after the Hammers lost to Athletic Bilbao on penalties.

The former Hammers player claimed that Wilshere was set for a good season after he scored during the club’s latest pre-season friendly against the Spanish side.

“He’s going to be top notch this season,” wrote Collison on his verified Twitter account.

Wilshere managed only eight appearances for Manuel Pellegrini’s side last season, with an ankle injury seeing him stuck on the sidelines for a total of 193 days. (Source: Transfermarkt)

OPINION

West Ham lost 4-2 to Atheltic Bilbao on penalties after the game ended 2-2 after 90 minutes, and it’s fair to say that a few Hammers players impressed. One of these players was Wilshere as he managed to continue his red-hot form in pre-season. The 27-year-old worked well with Declan Rice in the middle of the Hammers’ midfield to be an extra layer of protection for the club’s defence but also Wilshere attempted to burst forward to help West Ham go on the attack whenever he could. Wilshere just oozed class with his passes and it’s easy to see that he could be a real asset in the upcoming season. As ever, the only question mark that hangs over the midfielder is his injury record. However, given that he seems to have coped with playing regular football in pre-season, there’s a chance his bad luck with injuries may be over. Wilshere, when fully fit at Arsenal in his 2017/18 campaign,  scored one goal while assisting three in his 20 league appearances and also wowed in the Europa League for the London club by averaging a rating of 7.23 (Source: WhoScored). If Wilshere could find his 2017/18 form again, but this time for the Hammers, he is destined to be a fan favourite at the London Stadium
