West Ham could do with a new defensive midfielder after selling Pedro Obiang to Sassuolo and many fans on Twitter have been urging the club to go after Stuttgart ace Santiago Ascacibar. It’s not hard to see why. Ascacibar is 22-years-old, a four-time Argentina international and could be available on the cheap after suffering relegation from the Bundesliga with Stuttgart last season. He is a tough-tackling defensive midfield and his aggression has led one West Ham fans to dub him as the “Argentinean Gattuso”, for obvious reasons. According to stats by WhoScored, Ascacibar completed 80.7 per cent of his passes in the Bundesliga last season, which is not bad while playing for a relegated team, and also averaged 2.9 tackles and 1.6 interceptions per league appearance. German football expert Raphael Honigstein was quoted by BBC Sport last year as saying that Ascacibar is “a classic tough-tackling, hard-running defensive midfielder but with real skill as well”. He also has a tattoo of Diego Maradona on one of his legs, but we reckon most West Ham fans would forgive him for that if he did head to the London Stadium before this week’s transfer deadline.

Yes mate, good players. Ascacibar is what we need in midfield, Ajeti ideal striker option and Cardoso is the CB depth and promise we need too

Ascacibar be unreal but surely no way that deal would happen love to see him with us. If we ended the window with Cardoso, Ajeti and Ascacibar then wow but I’m pretty confident we only get Cardoso in. Will wait and see. Hope Husillos can pull off more top business.

Ascacibar would be a great signing

If Ascacibar's rumours are true and he's being sold to West Ham, that would be a very smart move for a great DM#WHUFC
