OPINION

Robert Snodgrass certainly seems to be a polarising figure amongst the West Ham United fanbase, although on Tuesday night they were very much united in their feelings for him. While the Scotland international is often praised for his work rate, there was none of that after his performance in the Hammers’ 2-0 victory over League Two Newport County in the Carabao Cup. The former Hull City man looked very lethargic and unable to really make his mark on the game. There were plenty of Irons players who looked off the pace at Rodney Parade, but Snodgrass was one of the chief offenders. He just doesn’t seem to have the pace necessary to be a success out wide, meaning that his usefulness is starting to be reduced purely to set pieces. He is 31 years of age now, so perhaps his best days are behind him. His struggles with the fourth tier outfit would suggest that that may in fact be the case.
