West Ham fans react to Antonio injury

|

OPINION

At this stage, you have to feel sorry for West Ham. It seems as if barely a week goes by where the Hammers don’t have some kind of injury problem or other, and after his side’s Carabao Cup clash with Newport County on Tuesday night, it looks as if this week isn’t going to be any different for Manuel Pellegrini. Early in the first half of the 2-0 win, it was Michail Antonio would went down clutching his hamstring, and it didn’t look good at all. As a general rule, the more innocuous an injury appears, the more worrying it is. In this case, Antonio was clearly in trouble from the moment it happened, and it now remains to be seen how long he will be out for. No doubt many fans will be fuming over the fact that a player who has been in such fine form was risked against League Two opposition, and given the frequency with which this kind of thing happens, questions will be asked about the backroom staff’s methods. As for Antonio himself, this is a real shame. In his three Premier League appearances this season he has averaged 1.4 successful dribbles per 90 minutes, as well as 1.4 key passes, as per Whoscored. Losing him now will be a real blow.
