As a West Ham player, Grady Diangana would have been as gutted as anyone to be on a losing side against Millwall as West Brom lost 2-1 to the Hammers’ biggest rivals at The Hawthorns in the Carabao Cup on Tuesday night. Although it was a defeat for the Baggies, there were a lot of positives for them and Diangana’s debut was one of them. In the first half, the on-loan Hammer looked bright, full of flair and was the driving force behind several attacks for the home side. After nine minutes, it was Diangana’s shot that led to Charlie Austin scoring on his West Brom debut. Diangana was widely hailed by West Brom fans on Twitter and he did have a decent match. However he will need to perform a lot better if he wants to earn a regular starting spot in the league because Kyle Edwards, Matt Phillips and possibly Matheus Pereira are all going to be above him in Slaven Bilic’s pecking order. Edwards has stood out for the Baggies in the opening games of their season so Diangana has his work cut out.
Forever West Ham has rounded up some of the best tweets below:
Diagana was immense last night. First 30 minutes everything was through him. Good vision, good ball control, not afraid to take his man on or take a shot (his shot lead to Austin goal). Looks lively, tracks back as well and helps out in defenders. Once fully fit, he’s a starter.

I think a lot of that was due to Burke putting in about 20% effort on the right flank. Diangana was very good and Edwards was meh, but we need all three positions to be on the same wavelength or it doesn’t work.

He had moments, but it really showed in contrast to Diangana who was an absolute natural on the opposite wing. Had been improving slightly there before the switch (very slightly). I just dont see how or where he fits into any system we might now play.

Austin looked decent but off the pace. Diangana has bags of flair and showed real intent. Pereira looked like he had class and was good on the ball but lacked options
