West Ham duo Winston Reid and Xande Silva are unlikely to be fit enough to face Newport County in the Carabao Cup in midweek, according to the reliable source ExWHUemployee.

Neither player has featured for the Hammers so far this season, with Reid still recovering from a long term knee injury and Silva having to undergo emergency surgery on a bowel obstruction over the summer.

When asked whether the pair would be available for the Hammers’ clash with League Two county on Tuesday, Ex wrote on his personal account: “I doubt it”.

OPINION

This probably isn’t too much of a surprise, truth be told. Reid has been out for an eternity and Silva had fairly serious health issues over the summer. You would expect them both to be back in the relatively near future, but as of yet there is nothing to suggest that they are close to comebacks. If the two, it will probably be Silva who Manuel Pellegrini is keeping the closer eye on. The youngster really impressed last season for the U23s, even earning a Premier League debut, and had it not been for a hernia, he could well have been knocking on the door of the senior team this season too. The 22-year-old may only have 17 top flight minutes to his name, but in that cameo he managed two shots on goal and a key pass, as per Whoscored. If that is anything to go by then he has the potential to be a real handful, and the sooner he is back, the better.
