West Ham fans blown away by Haller

|

OPINION

Since David Sullivan and David Gold took over at West Ham United back in 2010, the Hammers have brought in over 40 forwards in their hunt to find a player who can successfully lead the line and inspire them towards a push for European football. Time and time again hopes have been raised, and time and time again, they have been dashed too. After such a dire record, it’s understandable that supporters are a little wary of getting too excited about any new additions, but it took just one half of Premier League football for them to lose their minds over new talisman Sebastien Haller. In the opening 45 minutes against Manchester City, the big Frenchman looked every inch the complete striker, linking play well and illustrating just how dangerous and powerful he can be. Perhaps that shouldn’t come as too much of a surprise – after all, he did average 6.9 aerial duels won per game last term, as well as 1.3 key passes, and a total of nine assists, as per Whoscored. But the worry is that a player will struggle to bring that kind of form to a division and competitive and robust as the Premier League. West Ham should never have been worried.
