West Ham midfielder Pablo Fornals has sent a Twitter message to supporters after scoring his first goal for the club.

The Spaniard was on target in the Hammers’ thrilling 5-3 win over Hertha Berlin on Wednesday, finding the back of the net with a sweetly struck left-footed effort from just inside the box.

And writing on his personal Twitter account after the match, the 23-year-old had a simple message for fans.

Sharing an emoji of a person with their arms crossed to mimic the Hammers’ iconic pose, he said: “COYI”.

OPINION

It’s still very early days, but so far, the signs are that Fornals has everything needed to be a real success in east London. His goal on Wednesday was a really classy finish, showing great composure in the box to slow the game down to his pace, before rifling a left footed shot high above the diving goalkeeper. Anybody who has followed him in recent times will not be surprised by that kind of display though. In the U21 European Championships this summer, he was averaging 2.4 shots per game, 1.8 key passes, and a pass completion rate of 88.1%, as per Whoscored. In short, Fornals is a proper talent, and if he can replicate his recent brilliance when things get competitive for West Ham, then he could well come to be regarded as one of the signings of the summer. The odd tweet like this certainly won’t go amiss either in ensuring his popularity with supporters.
