Cresswell given cold shoulder

West Ham full-back was not injured going into the Hammers’ 1-1 draw with Brighton on Saturday, and instead was dropped for tactical reasons, according to Football.London.

Arthur Masuaku came into the side ahead of the 29-year-old, who e endured a torrid afternoon in the 5-0 defeat to Manchester City last weekend.

And it is understood that is omission was not related to any kind of injury, but rather his manager’s preference for his Congolese teammate.

OPINION

It’s hardly a surprise that Creswell was dropped against Brighton, the defender had something of a horror show against Manchester City, and was given the runaround from first whistle to last. The 29-year-old managed just one tackle and one block against the champions, as per Whoscord, and looked entirely out of his depth for the vast majority of the match. Those stats, as bad as they are, also don’t convey just how often he was left standing by the pace of Kyle Walker. A change makes sense, therefore, and with Masuaku impressing towards the end of last season, there is certainly and argument that that left-back role is now the Congolese international’s to lose. If he cam put in a good performance or two over the next couple of weeks, then he really will have stolen a march on his teammate.
