Pellegrini blocks Holland exit

|

Manuel Pellegrini has blocked a loan exit for West Ham United starlet Nathan Holland, according to Football Insider.

The reputable football outlet claim that Holland has done enough to prove to Pellegrini that he is ready to make an impact in the Hammers’ first-team.

Football Insider report that the 21-year-old is set to feature for West Ham in the League Cup clash against Newport County on Tuesday, with a decision set to be made on his future after that game. It would be the first time he’s been seen in the first team since his debut in 2017.

Holland is said to have attracted much interest from Championship and League One clubs after his impressive year in the under-23’s.

OPINION

Holland is set for a chance, and it is up to him whether he grasps it or not. The young winger has most likely caught the attention of Pellegrini for the past year, with a well-taken effort against Brentford B in a recent friendly enough for the Chilean to take notice. Holland was involved in 10 goals in his 11 appearances last season and featured on the bench a number of times without featuring for the senior side. He’s only made one senior appearance off the bench back in 2017. With West Ham having strengthened their attacking ranks massively with the signings of Pablo Fornals, Albian Ajeti, and Sebastien Haller, it seems unlikely that there will be a spot anywhere across the front-four this season apart from in the early rounds of cup competitions. With another young winger, Grady Diangana, having completed a loan move to West Brom – a similar move would certainly look the most likely outcome, whether or not Holland features against Newport.
