DC United want Hernandez

MLS outfit DC United want to sign Javier Hernandez as a replacement for Wayne Rooney, according to Football Insider.

The £140,000-a-week Mexican [Spotrac] is a main target for the club, who are willing to offer him a big contract to tempt him stateside.

Hernandez played with Rooney at Manchester United, with the Champions League winner set to join Derby County in January.

Sources close to West Ham have reportedly acknowledged that there is keen interest from the US.

This would be an okay deal for the Hammers, provided they could get somebody in to replace the Mexican. Hernandez is one of the club’s biggest earners, but hasn’t done a great deal to justify that salary since signing in 2017. Last year he managed just 0.5 successful dribbles and 0.2 key passes per game for the Hammers, as per Whoscored, and you can’t help feeling that a more well-rounded striker who could offer more in a creative sense would be better suited to the club. As it stands, however, it would be risky to let Chicharito go. The Hammers only have Sebastien Haller and the unproven Albien Ajeti as senior striking alternatives, and you would fancy that they need at least one more hitman to properly cope with the loss of Hernandez. If they can do that, however, getting him off the wage bill could be a shrewd move.
